Background: Diverse Heritage: Minerva's background includes Puerto Rican, Italian, and Polish roots. Born in Manhattan and raised in Miami, she pursued her education in New York City before settling in the East End of Long Island around 2002. Theatrical Beginnings: Initially connected with the local theater community, Minerva's early experiences in the Hamptons were shaped by her participation in local productions, such as a Guild Hall production of "The Cherry Orchard." OLA's Mission and Impact: Advocacy and Support: OLA was founded in 2002, initially focusing on worker safety, access to public education, and cultural celebration. It represents over 20 Spanish-speaking nations, emphasizing the diversity within the Latino community. Educational Integration: With an average of 50% Latino student body across 24 school districts on the East End, OLA works to ensure educational systems are inclusive and supportive of Latino students and their families. Systemic Challenges: Minerva highlights the gap between the growing Latino population and the institutional support available, emphasizing the need for systems that serve all community members effectively. Personal Philosophy: Action and Empowerment: Minerva encourages taking initiative and learning through action, advocating for direct involvement in addressing community needs without waiting for external validation.
